About

Soft actuator prototyping, TSAR.

Initiated in early 2011, the Adaptive Systems Lab
(ASL) is a research group situated within the Assistant Chair for Architecture & Sustainable Building Technologies (SuAT), which is part of the Institute of Technology in Architecture (ITA), Department of Architecture (DARCH) at the ETH Zürich.

The aim of the ASL is to explore the concept of buildings as dynamic adaptive systems through the application of adaptive design strategies.

A primary agenda of the lab is to explore adaptive architectural systems as methods for negotiating the dialectic of increasing sustainability and occupant comfort in the built environment while also opening new design potentials for architects.

Apart from research and workshops based in Zürich, the ASL has also participated in the Future Cities Laboratory, an international initiative between the Department of Architecture ETH Zürich, the National University of Singapore and the Nanyang Technological University (Singapore).

We are always open for potential collaborations with other departments, institutions and industry partners, please do not hesitate to contact us with proposals.
